About this site
In concrete slabs, the nominal maximum size should not exceed three-fourths of the minimum clear spacing of reinforcing bars or one-third of the section depth (ACI 302.1R). The commentary R26.4.2.1(a)(5) of ACI 318-19 states that the size limitations on aggregates are provided to facilitate placement of concrete around the reinforcement without
Different Types & Sizes of Aggregate for Concrete
Aug 11, 2018 Gravel, cobble and boulders come under this category. The maximum size aggregate used may be dependent upon some conditions. In general, 40mm size aggregate used for normal strengths and 20mm size is used for high strength concrete. The size range of various coarse aggregates given below: Fine gravel: 4mm 8mm. Medium gravel: 8mm 16mm
II Concrete Aggregates Ontario Sand, Stone & Gravel
The minimum percentages for material passing the 315 μm and 160 μm sieves may be reduced to 5 and 0, respectively, if the aggregate is to be used in air-entrained concrete containing more than 250 kg/m3 of cementing material or in non-air-entrained concrete

About this site
Jul 12, 2005 I have numerous school site projects in Southern California, that require new concrete flatwork. The specificatons, which I wrote, specify a mix design of compressive strength minimum 4000psi, W/C ratio 0.50 maximum, with 1 inch aggregate passing 95-100%. If it helps in this question, the specs are written per Green Book requirements for a mix
Aggregate size| Concrete Construction Magazine
At a given water ratio, within the range employed in most structural concrete, smaller maximum sizes of aggregate will tend to produce higher concrete strengths than larger ones. 2. The larger sizes will require less mixing water and hence, for a given cement factor, will produce concrete of lower water-ratio than the smaller sizes.
